IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition Amendment 4 (BS 7671:2018+A4:2026)

The introduction of the IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition Amendment 4 (BS 7671:2018+A4:2026) marks a significant update for the electrical industry. Officially effective from 15 April 2026, this latest amendment sets the benchmark for electrical installation standards and testing across the UK. The previous edition will remain in use for a six-month transition period before being fully withdrawn.

Amendment 4 has been developed to reflect the changing needs of modern electrical installations. It supports improved safety, ensures ongoing compliance, and addresses advancements in emerging technologies within the sector.

The current edition, BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 (commonly known as the brown book), will continue to be recognised until 15 October 2026. After this date, the new BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 (orange book) will become the primary standard for all electrical work.

Certification and assessment organisations such as NICEIC, NAPIT, and SELECT require contractors to have access to the latest version of the Wiring Regulations. Staying up to date is essential to remain compliant and audit-ready.

As the most substantial update since the launch of the 18th Edition in 2018, Amendment 4 aligns UK wiring regulations with the latest European harmonised standards while also responding to rapid developments in electrical technologies.
